5 Common Gas Oven Issues & How to Fix Them
1.The oven is not functioning — the burner won’t turn on.
The failure occurs due to wearing off of the gas control system parts that stop gas supply in case of leakage. Constant heating of the thermal element affects its integrity; eventually it breaks down and stops functioning. If the thermal element is defective, the oven turns off as soon as you release the power switch. It is impossible to restore or repair a thermal element; you have to replace it with a new one.
2. The oven won’t switch on using electric ignition (it does not click, there is no spark).
For consumer’s convenience, oven manufacturers produce their products with an option of automatic burner ignition. The ignition functions from the electrical network of 220 volts. The ignition unit generates the spark for burners. After 5-6 years, the ignition unit abridges (produces a spark only for two burners) or burns off completely (neither clicks, nor sparks). In this case, replace the ignition unit with a new one, since it is filled with resin and cannot be repaired.
3. The oven does not heat up.
Mechanical thermostat adjusts and maintains the temperature inside the oven. A thermal bulb with liquid fill fluid is placed inside the oven. The liquid expands and pushes the valve under the effect of high temperature. Gas supply stops: the higher the temperature, the lower is gas supply. If the flame is constantly reduced, replace the thermostat.
4. The oven faucet is stuck (won’t turn).
All gas equipment must undergo annual maintenance, with cleaning and oiling of the cock plug. If this rule is ignored, rotary mechanisms dry up and get blocked. Moreover, blocking of the faucet could be caused by the broken oven thermostat. Anyway, to find the cause, as well as to oil and clean, faucet defect identification is required.
5. Oven burner does not ignite (does not combust).
This breakdown occurs after many years of use, the frequency of its occurrence increases with years. The cause of: wearing off of the ignition unit; broken spark plug wire insulation; destruction and crack of a ceramic flare stack ignition. To identify the cause, be cunny. At night, turn off the light in the kitchen. Switch on electric ignition and observe the spark:
1. Complete absence of the spark on one burner — the wire is punctured.
2. The spark hits to the side, into the hob — a crack on the spark plug.
3. The spark has yellow or red color — wearing off of the ignition unit.
